Review: Sukin Purifying Facial Masque

It's been awhile since i've talked face masks with you and to be honest it was something that had started lacking in my skin care routine. I'm happy to say though I've developed a new Sunday night ritual of getting mah mask on and painting my digits for the impending week ahead.

I've been slapping the Sukin Purifying Facial Masque on my face of a Sunday night for the past few weeks and i've been loving the results.

Sukin Says - A gentle treatment to help cleanse, tone and de-stress your skin.
A purifying base of gentle Kaolin clay combined with soothing aloe vera and antioxidant rich rosehip oil will leave skin feeling refreshed, nurtured and completely clean. - Source http://www.sukinorganics.com
Sounds amazing right? Well it is! When first you first apply this mask is feels like a thick moisturiser but then dries down but unlike other clay based masks where your talking is mumbled and you develop a bunch of cracks on your face it doesn't feel tight or uncomfortable (sidenote: was anyone else ever told that if your mask cracked while it dried you'd end up with wrinkles? please say I wasn't the only gullible one.). I think my skin is kinda loving Kaolin clay at the moment. In my recent April Favourites I mentioned the Alpha H Daily Exfoliant I was loving which contained Kaolin and even more recently i've been getting back into using Lush Angels on Bare Skin and guess what one of the ingredients is? Kaolin!

Using this has cleared up my skin quite significantly and the day after? wowza baby soft smooth amazing skin.. I can even wear a foundation that would normally cling to dry spots without the need for a primer. I also think this tub will last me awhile because you don't really need to use too much each time.
What's a mask review without a picture of the blogger wearing said mask... Here you go! My camera hasn't picked up the colour very well but it's a light terracotta red colour in the tub.
You can purchase this mask from Sukin Organics website or from Priceline & Various Chemists for RRP $15.95AUD (so afforable!)

Manicure Monday - YouTube made me do it edition

I purchased this nail polish after seeing Vivianna Does Makeup feature it on her YouTube & Blog.

I'd never tried any Rimmel polishes before so the formula's are completely foreign to me! The Rimmel 60 Second Nail Polish RRP $7.95AUD boasts a quick dry time of 60 seconds which is a bit of a selling point for someone like me who paints their nails and can't sit still long enough for them to dry.
Sun Downer is a red which leans very orange and I think it's quite beautiful. Application... this is where it gets a little hairy. The first time I applied this I was about ready to throw it in the bin, to be fair to the polish I was applying it in low light and in a rush as usual. The formula is quite thin so when I first applied it I found it a streaky sheer mess (this is after 2 coats). I also don't believe that it dried in 60 seconds...sorry!

However! With a little more patience when I did these swatch photos I made this work a little better for me. On close inspection there is still VNL (visible nail line) but it's not too much of a bother for me. I also used my holy grail topcoat Seche Vite this time around and it made such a difference, smoothed and evened out the colour on the nail.

Something else I originally loathed but now kinda like is the large brush. You see I have small fingernails (I used to always get giggles from the girls in the nail salon when I had acrylics). So I find some big brushes a bit difficult to work with on my small nail beds. Again with a bit of time and care this worked out well and I only needed 1 swipe on my pinky nail (yep, they're that small!)
I want to try out the other Rimmel London polish formulas because I have heard great things, if you have any rec's of colours i'd love to know!

The Makeup Edit - May 2013

I'm back with this months makeup edit. Doing this last month proved to be quite a success, not only was it easier to get ready of a morning because I only had a small collection of items to choose from but I also found that I used up a few items as well (Empties video coming soon!).

I think this will be here to stay, so without further ado.

Quick note: I'm not showing my daily skin/prep drawer as nothing as really changed. If there is a change here I will show it.

Rules
  • Some products won't be rotated, this is could be because either they are HG items or I simply don't have something to swap them out with.
  • If i'm doing makeup for a special occasion I can dip into my regular collection, what I select for the edit is mainly for my everyday makeup.
  • I will try and rotate around mid month, it works better for my editorial calendar (haha that sounds so pro...) but mainly because beginning of the month is reserved for my favourites.
  • I will always note products that i'm trialling etc and let me know if you'd like a review! I'll also link to any reviews/swatches I may have already done for any products already in the edit.

NEWS: Limited Edition Lush Fragrances - Only available for 2 days! QUICK STICKS!

Okay so quite an aggressive title there but if you want to try out these fragrances you will need to be quick. You see Lush let their lovely forumites choose their favourite scents to be turned into a small collection of fragrances to be released online for 2 days only.

Source - Lush Australasia Facebook

First off, the date in the picture here from the facebook is different to what is on the website. On the website it says they are available from 7PM on the 17TH OF MAY.

The scents they have released in this collection are the following (scent descriptions taken from Fragrantica, The Perfumed Court or Lush) -

BigBig is a fresh, tropical scent of the beach, made as an imitation of the popular Big shampoo as a part of the Lush Forum limited collection for the holiday season of 2010. The fragrance features notes of mandarin, neroli, orange blossom and vanilla.

Twilight - Twilight perfume was created as a tribute to the beauty moment between day and night, glittering stars and purple - pink - orange sky. The fragrance is sexy and anti stressful at the same time, made of lavender, ylang-ylang and tonka bean notes. It belongs to the Lush Forum limited collection for the holiday season of 2010.

The ComforterLush The Comforter is a limited edition 2009 Lush perfume, made special from the UK Forum Fragrance Party.  This cannot be purchased from their website nor from any stores. The cypress and bergamot oils in this perfume soothe skin while cassis adds a mysterious and seductive aroma.

Creamy Candy - Sweet, frothy and fluffy bubbles that smell like custard creams. What a delight it is to have a bath in the equivalent of a cup of vanilla flavoured, frothy, hot chocolate topped with marshmallows. The Creamy Candy bath is like the friend you're always delighted to see, because he bubbles over with cheerfulness no matter what life throws at him. For days when your friend is busy, it's time to indulge in some Creamy Candy.

Snowcake - Snowcake is warm and sophisticated sweet smell of marzipan, cuddly and warm during the harsh winter. Irresistible marzipan - almond scent is caused by the combination of rose, cassis and benzoin. The fragrance is an imitation of the famous Lush Snowcake soap as a part of the Forum limited collections for holiday season 2010.

Rose Jam - The beautiful fragrance used in our Rose Jam bubbleroon and Ro’s Argan Body Conditioner has been voted by our customer forum as the one they wanted most as a liquid perfume. The Rose Jam fragrance is light, fresh and modern, with a hint of lemon and sexy geranium oil.

I was lucky enough to receive a bottle of the Creamy Candy perfume to trial and i've been wearing it this past week. I chose this because I felt it was the closest smelling to Snow Fairy which if that was available I would buy 395839532 bottles of. Creamy Candy is similar but definitely not an absolute match :(.

This may just be with this particular scent but when you use this fragrance go at it with a light hand as it's very very strong and overpowering. It's also long lasting on the skin and the scent didn't really change from the bottle to being on my skin. I think this bottle will last me quite awhile because I find one spray on one pulse point (your pick!) of this is enough.

To purchase head to the Lush Website and don't forget it's this weekend only!

I would love to know if you pick up any of the scents and what you think... I'm tempted to also get The Comforter.
